Two Important Updates!

Hi Pixel Lab Members, happy YOG holiday to you, there are two good news to share with you as follows.

Firstly, there would be an outing at Marina Bay Sands for a Day II to those who has missed it last friday, it gona falls on this coming Friday, 20th August or even Thursday, 19th August and Wednesday, 18th August. The only difference is that it gona be held in both day light and night time for different interest, it depends on the respond of it, so come on and join us now! :)

Activities as usual but it gona be an exciting and fun outing for those who loves to photograph nice scenery, especially the night scene with the newly built buildings :)

Do register for the outing via e-mail by submiting your name, class, contact number and e-mail address to pixellab_wL@hotmail.com, you may also submit your's together with your friends if you are coming together.

Secondly, DSLR workshop for photography club will be conducted on the 17th Sept 2010 at Design Excellence Centre, TP campus, Blk 1 ground floor.
A maximum of 8 students will be selected to attend the workshop
Interested parties do send your name to the President or Vice President by 25th August.

Outing for the week! - Marina Bay Sands

Dear Pixel Lab Members, due to some inconvenience caused our outing was canceled on the second last Friday, 30th July, it is postponed to this coming Friday, 13th August. Only 15 to 20 students for this outing, do leave a tag or contact me via e-mail if there is any question, or to participate.

Outing schedule: 5pm at the foyer

Venue: Marina Bay Sands

Transportation: MRT

Things to bring:
- Camera and tripod stand (if you do own one)
- Expenses for dinner

Meal:
- Fast food restaurant such as the McDonald's & KFC
- Just Acia (free flow of drinks and ice-cream with purchase of set meal with just $5.50 (recommend)

I'm here to update certain things that all of you need to take note of.

1. Photoshoot Outing

Date : 30th July 2010

Venue : Marina Bay Sands

Time : Meet at 5pm, Bishan Campus (FOYER)

*No transportation provided. We'll take public transport

together to the respective venue.

Things to bring : Camera, Your own money for dinner.

If there are any of you who are interested,

2. ALL MEMBERS ARE TO PASS ME THEIR CCA RECORD CARDS

3. Training Sessions

Will be commencing 2 weeks from now, on a Wednesday.

Time and Venue is to be confirmed.

A name list will be put up by next week.

For those who attended the previous training may not do so now.

Please be reminded that only attend the training if you have no lessons

interrupted, as A.L form will not be provided for training sessions.

ONLY 20-25 STUDENTS WILL BE SELECTED.

is coming up real soon this week!!

For those who have written down their names in the list,

i hope there is no last minute back out.

We promise you an unforgettable time during this outing!

So here are the details :

Date : 29th May 2010, Saturday

Venue : Sembawang Park

Time : 130pm to 5pm(latest)

How to get there ?

- Alight at Sembawang MRT Station

- Take bus No. 882 at the Sembawang Interchange,

next to Sun Plaza.

- The bus will end at Sembawang Park itself.

What to bring ?

- Your LUNCH! You are encouraged to bring your lunch for the outing

as it will not be provided. We will give you time to eat your lunch.

Please take note that there are no shops for you to buy food.

You may also have your meal before you attend the outing if you wish to.

- Bring your own mat. If you do have a mat, please bring one as there are no seats

available at the park. Do remember to bring your mat.

- Umbrella, in case of emergency.

- Lots and Lots of Drinks due to bad weather.

- CCA Record and Pens. We may need you to use pens for certain games. :D

If you need further clarifications, do not hesitate to approach any of us. :)

And if there are any Pixel-Lab members who wish to join us, you are more than welcome to do so. The more the merrier~

And this will be your very first photography training as well,

Venue - Singapore Botanic Gardens

Time - 1230pm to latest by 5pm

(You guys are to meet us at Orchard MRT Station at 1230pm)

We will proceed to the Gardens together..

If you want to get there by yourself..

Portfolio Requirements [Edited]

How to complete a portfolio for grading

Preparing a portfolio is not just putting photos together only, you also need to let the reader or viewer to know who you are and the unique photography skill you possess.

The objective of having a portfolio is to let viewer/client to know where your skill is and how good you are in your photography skill.

To begin…

Get a scrapbook or any book you like, but i suggest using a book with black pages.

Get your photos developed and start arranging them in the order you like, it can be a story or plainly just showing off your unique photography skills. If you are arranging them in categories/theme, content page is optional. But remember to put the name of the category/theme on every first page of each category/theme in the portfolio.

To let others recognize our portfolio is important, so please include your name on the front cover of the book. Details of the portfolio requirement will be listed below.

Follow all requirements carefully, some requirements are optional. (not a must to include in your portfolio.)

Eg. i love taking photo with bright sunlight on my subject of the photo, having a flash in all of my night photos is a must. Lastly i love using my nikon D60 with the kit lens without any filter as i feel that it will give the photo a better color contrast.

Dear Pixel Lab Members,

Here is the summary for yesterday's 2nd General Meeting. Basically, Ila, our Pixel Lab President, mentioned about the Pixel Lab Holiday Checklist. Here's the checklist.

Other than the Checklist, Ila also mentioned about our Pixel Lab Club T-shirt, whereby you are not compulsory to buy (we prefer that all of you buy it). It cost from $8 to $10.

We've received alot of feedbacks that some of them still do not know how to sign up the Deviantart Online Portfolio and upload pictures in it. So, therefore here are the guides for Deviantart.

This is how the Log In Page look like.

Fill in the details accordingly.

This will appear once you click Become A Deviant.

This is how your Deviantart Profile look like.

If you want to upload pictures, click on the down arrow beside your user name as in this picture, and click on 'Submit Deviation'.

This page is where you upload your pictures.

Example: This the picture I want to add into the Deviantart. So...

Type the title for your picture

Click 'Choose' to choose the Category for the picture.

Then, select the picture you want to upload.

This is how it looks like after you select the picture.

Type in the picture's description and also the keywords.

Put tick on these...

Then click 'Submit'.

We, Pixel Lab EXCOs have set a Standard Portfolio Format. In your portfolio, before you start anything, dedicate the 1st page as your Introduction, put a picture of yourself and....

Do include:

1)Name

2)Class & Course

3)Membership No.

4)Deviantart URL

EXAMPLE:

2)Class & Course: IQP, Higher Nitec-Accounting Year 2

After the Introduction page, the 2nd page will be the Contents page, whereby you have to write down the list of themes that you are focusing on.

After that you can now start on your 1st theme...

* Put a frontpage before starting on a new theme. This frontpage, you should put your theme name.

Moving on to pictures. Every picture you MUST have:

1)Title

2)Camera Name

3)Shutter Speed

4)F Number

5)Focal Length

6)ISO Speed

7)Date Picture Taken

These 7 items can be found in Deviantart when you upload your pictures in Deviantart.

I need a total of 12 students to cover an exciting outing that is going to be held during the International Student Seminar scheduled on both 22nd &23rd June 2009.

Members will be following the coach with the group to take pictures as they go for their respective visits in Singapore. (PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN CAMERA!)

22nd June (1400-1800), it will be Social &Cultural Visit to places such as, Bugis, Orchard Road, Suntec, etc.
23rd June (1430-1700), it will be Industrial Visit to places such as, NEA, NeWater Plant, Singapore Science Centre, etc.

So basically, YOUR DUTY is to take pictures of/for them while they visit the venues. Isn't that as simple as ABC?! It's fun and easy AND the best thing is that you can get your CCA hours!

Submission of Portfolio.

Every Pixel Lab member NEED to submit a portfolio so you can compile your work which will help you improve in the future. We need you to submit your individual portfolios by 10 July 2009 to either Mr. Garneson or any of the excos.

We have come up with a list of requirements for you to follow which will guide you.

Requirements

- For the front cover all members need to include:

Full name:
Member number:
Class:
In-take year:
Design of the cover is up to you

- Minimum 12 pictures, maximum 50 pictures

- All photos need to have name/title and caption.

- Must include photo detail (Eg. date taken, shutter speed, exposure etc)

- Size of each photo must not be smaller that 4R.

- All photos must be taken within the period of time you are schooling in ITE Bishan, which means photo taken before or after that period of time will not be acknowledged.

- Each member are able to submit up to 3 portfolio.

Fail to comply the requirements above will result to rejections of portfolio. So please follow the rules.

Note that the portfolio will help you to keep track of your improvements and also the events you have been to. CCA hours will be rewarded accordingly.

Without you guys, laughter and fun wouldn't have been possible.

Next announcement will be our annual Pixel Lab Camp.

Wild Moments showcases 24 large pieces that includes highlights such as soaring waterfalls of the legendary Jiu Zhai Gou, Charming Giant Panda cubs in the province of Sichuan China, wild Pygmy Elephants herd in the tropical jungles of Borneo, intelligent Snow Monkeys bathing in the hot spring during winter in Japan, amazing bird life that exists in our own backyard in Singapore and many more.

“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of moments that take our breath away.”

24-year-old C.S Ling has traveled to many parts of Asia Pacific over the past 3 years to capture images of vanishing landscapes and endangered wildlife.

Her works explore the theme of life, love and freedom and through that, she hopes that the exhibition will open people’s eyes and minds, re-igniting their innate love for Nature and inspire all to protect and preserve our natural treasures.

We thank all participants for your support during our recent photography competition.

Entries are now being assessed by the panel of judges (not us) and the finalists' submissions as well as Teachers' submissions will be displayed on Friday, 08.08.08, in the Business Room (located just opposite the General Office). Winners will be announced on the day tiself.

Next, besides photographers who were assigned for this Friday's National Day Celebration, interested members may also volunteer themselves to take up the assignment as well.
Just SMS your name & class to 81333190 (Cherlyn-Director of Admin), latest by Thursday night, 07-08-08.

Submission of names later than Thursday will not be accepted.
Note: Volunteers are to bring their own cameras for the event shooting. Loan of school cameras on that day are not allowed.

Lastly,

Members who have yet to submit any portfolios, please do so as soon as possible.
(it can be hard copy, in a special 5R/8R album or in a A4 clear folder or in soft copy. Eg. Online)

02. "Are there any activities coming up? We're BORED!!!"
